I often characterise the city as being small enough to be usable and easy to navigate, but just big enough to have plenty going on to keep one busy. Now a new venture is borne of a community project that&#8217;s been organically growing over the last year or so.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>What started as a conversation on a Facebook group for York parents has grown into a weekly pop-up cafe that operates on a &#8220;pay as you feel&#8221; basis and has serviced around 700 adult customers in its first six months, along with 800 children. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ync.org.uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">York Nurturing Community<\/a> aims to function as a safe and inclusive community hub that&#8217;s able to accommodate a range of groups and events through its weekly pop-ups in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ync.org.uk\/events\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Derwenthorpe eco-estate<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>With the success of those pop-ups, the ambition has grown and YNC are now ready to step things up to a permanent venue and really get stuck into operating on a wider basis, intercepting surplus food from supermarkets and supporting the &#8220;pay as you feel&#8221; element with a wider fixed price offering. The guys have identified a suitable venue in an up and coming development in the city centre and have now entered the crowd funding element of the venture.
