Brunch is a fantastic invention. When mornings begin too lazily to accommodate any kind of meaningful sustenance before leaving the house, but don’t need to feature much in the way of useful activity, there’s great satisfaction to be had from letting the morning bleed away with a paper and some delicious food while someone else takes the strain. Here’s a round up of the best places to enjoy brunch in York. Enjoy!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kiosk<\/a><\/em><\/strong>
This small “art space” dishes up unusual breakfasts that are full of unique flavours. It can be a bit of a squeeze, but the atmosphere is relaxed, teas and coffee superb and food truly fantastic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fossgate Social<\/a><\/em><\/strong>
Since it was forced to close by the 2015 floods, the Fossgate has gone from strength to strength. After using the floods as an opportunity to extend upstairs, the food offering has expanded to offer some superb meaty and vegetarian breakfast options.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Star Inn the City<\/a><\/em><\/strong>
The Star<\/a> is definitely one of the headline acts in our food scene and certainly doesn’t disappoint for brunch in York. Gammon & eggs, “ceps in the city” and kipper croquettes are amongst the plates on offer while you enjoy those magnificent views of the river or Museum Gardens<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mannion<\/a>
<\/em><\/strong>While they’ve recently been branching out into evening service, the daytime offering at Mannion remains superb. Mine’s a rarebit please!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Barbakan<\/a>
<\/em><\/strong>The stand out brunch in York dish here is the ‘duck rumour’: a baked duck egg with either mushroom, gruyere and creme fraiche or smoked salmon, spinach and gruyere. The more conventional options hit the spot too, but I know which I’d go for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
